For AI assistants and developers

The medication finder as an MCP server

Ask Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant where to get medication for alcohol use disorder and it can answer from the same SAMHSA list this site uses: programs near a ZIP code or in a city, the medications each reports, setting and payment, each answer with its source and pull date. Free, read-only, no key.

Questions

Is there a cost or an API key?

No. The server is free, read-only and needs no key or sign-in. Please cite SAMHSA and the alcohol.help page that comes back with each answer.

Where does the data come from?

SAMHSA's FindTreatment.gov: the 6,617 programs that report they prescribe or give medication for alcohol use disorder, pulled October 24, 2026. The server reads the same files as the finder and list pages on this site.

Does it give medical advice or tell someone whether they need treatment?

No. It lists programs and what they report to SAMHSA. It does not screen, diagnose or judge urgency or eligibility. In an emergency call 911; for crisis support call or text 988.
